Nel 2008 compare sulla rivista V, insieme a Erin Heatherton e Camilla Finn, fotografate da Elle von Unwerth. Nello stesso anno prende parte al reality show "The City" a fianco del fidanzato, il modello Adam Senn. Nel 2009 la Crandell ha lasciato la Wilhelmina Models e ha deciso di farsi rappresentare dalla Model Management che l'ha fatta lavorare come testimonial per la Diesel."

Nasce a Roma da una famiglia attiva nel settore dell'imprenditoria e della moda e vive l'infanzia tra gli Stati Uniti, il Sud Africa e l'Italia. Inizia la carriera di modella a 17 anni quando un fotografo amico di famiglia la incoraggia a fare l'indossatrice.

Dal 1997 al 2010 la sua presenza sulle passerelle di New York, Londra, Milano e Parigi è costante e sfila per tutti-ma-proprio-tutti: Chanel, Gucci, Versace, Fendi, Jean Paul Gautier, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Luis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Valentino, Ferrè, Armani, Stella McCartney, Dsquared, Celine, Alexander McQueen, Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs..

Appare sulle copertine di Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Elle, Marie Claire, Numerò.

Nel 2005 le viene assegnato un record: 70 sfilate in 3 settimane tra New York, Milano, Parigi e, sempre nello stesso anno rimpiazza Kate (Moss ovviamente) nella campagna pubblicitaria di H&M by Stella McCartney e in quella del profumo "Opium" di Yves Saint Laurent in seguito allo scandalo delle sniffate di Kate. (come se fosse l'unica a fare uso di polveri bianco/magiche nell'ambiente..).

MariaCarla è musa ispiratrice di Riccardo Tisci per Givenchy..e come dargli torto?
